Initiation Paths: an esoteric reading order

Initiation Paths are nine free reading orders through Pleroma's essays on Gnosticism, Hermeticism and inner work, one for each pillar.

Each path is that pillar's essays in the order they were published, oldest first; new essays join the end. Press Begin on a path and every essay you finish is ticked off here. Your progress stays in this browser: no account, nothing sent anywhere. Not sure which to open? The three-question quiz suggests a path.

How a path works

One pillar, in the order it was written

A path holds every essay filed under one pillar, sorted by the date it was published. Nothing else decides the order: there is no editor's sequence and there are no levels. When a new essay on that pillar appears, it joins the end of its path.

Begin marks a path as yours. Each essay on it then shows a small bar with its step number; reading to about four fifths of the page, or pressing Mark as complete, ticks it off, and this page counts the ticks.

All of it lives in your browser's local storage under one key, listed on the cookies page. There is no account, so the progress does not follow you to another device, and clearing the site's data starts it over.

Where to begin

Not sure which path is yours?

The quiz asks three questions and suggests three paths, strongest first. If you would rather read one long introduction per pillar before a whole path, the pillar guides do that. The books and primary texts behind the essays are in the Library.

Questions

Questions about the paths

What is an initiation path on Pleroma?

A reading order. Each of the nine paths is one pillar's essays in the order they were published, oldest first, and new essays join the end. The name borrows the old idea of initiation as a threshold crossed step by step; no rite, grade or teacher is involved.

Which path should I start with?

The one whose subject you keep returning to. If none stands out, the three-question quiz suggests three paths, strongest first. If you want the Gnostic myth first, the Gnostic Cosmology path covers it.

How is my progress saved?

In this browser's local storage, under one key listed on the cookies page. There is no account and the progress is not sent anywhere, so it does not follow you to another device, and clearing the site's data resets it.

When is a step ticked off?

Press Begin on a path first. From then on each essay of that path shows its step number, and reading about four fifths of the page, or pressing Mark as complete, ticks it off here.

Is this a course?

No. There are no lessons or certificates, and the order is publication order, not a designed syllabus. For one long introduction per pillar, read the pillar guides; for the primary texts, see the Library.

The paths are the site's essays in publication order, not a curriculum. Your progress lives only in this browser.
