In God-Man: The Word Made Flesh (1920), George W. Carey and Inez Eudora Perry wrote that every month, while the Moon is in the sign the Sun held at your birth, a “psycho-physical seed” is born in the solar plexus. That is their whole timing rule. The chrism fast practised today is a later layer built on it: it opens the window one sign earlier, when the Moon enters the sign before yours, and adds a fast of several days. Carey did not prescribe that fast; he wrote that the Elixir of Life is not found “by dieting or fasting”. This tool does the astronomy for both readings: the Moon's passage through the sign before yours, then through yours, about four and a half days in all.

What is the sacred secretion?
In God-Man: The Word Made Flesh (1920), George W. Carey and Inez Eudora Perry teach that once a month, when the Moon is in the sign the Sun held at your birth, a “psycho-physical seed” is born in the solar plexus (p. 126). Carey ties it to an oil he says flows down the spinal cord from the brain; chrism is the Greek word for anointing oil. In his account the seed is saved by continence and by avoiding alcohol and gluttony, so that it can rise to the pineal gland. It is an early-twentieth-century teaching with its own physiology, not an established medical fact.
Why does the window begin in the sign before mine?
Because modern practice says so; Carey and Perry do not. They place the seed in the days the Moon is in your Sun sign (God-Man, p. 126) and say nothing about the sign before. Later practice added the Moon's passage through the previous sign as preparation, so the full window runs from the Moon entering that sign to the Moon leaving yours. For a Capricorn Sun: from the Moon entering Sagittarius (240°) to the Moon entering Aquarius (300°), with Carey's days from 270°.
How long is the window?
About four and a half days: the Moon spends about 2¼ days in each sign, and the window covers two signs. Because the Moon's speed changes along its orbit, the 2026 windows run from just under four days to just over five. Carey's half, the Moon in your own sign, is about 2¼ days. This calendar computes each window to the minute from real ephemeris rather than from an average.
What if I was born on a cusp?
If your birth date falls within two days of a Sun-sign change, the date alone cannot settle your sign. The calendar will ask for your birth time and the timezone of your birthplace, and compute the Sun's actual position at that moment. If you do not know your time, you can choose between the two candidate signs and go by the one you have always used.
Does the practice involve fasting, and is that safe?
Not in Carey: he rejected fasting (God-Man, p. 103). The multi-day fast is a later addition. A fast of several days is not safe for everyone: it is not for anyone under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding, diabetic, with a history of disordered eating, or taking medication that must be taken with food. Does the sacred secretion apply to women?
In Carey and Perry's account, yes: their monthly rule is written for men and women alike, from puberty on. The window depends only on the sign the Sun was in at your birth, so the calendar computes it the same way for everyone.
Is the Moon in my sign the same as my Moon sign?
No. Your Moon sign is where the Moon stood when you were born, and it never changes. This calendar follows your Sun sign and tracks the Moon's passage through it each month. Your Moon sign is in the Living Natal Chart.
