Moon in Scorpio
The Moon in her fall. What was buried comes up to be counted.
Moon in Scorpio is the two-to-two-and-a-half-day monthly transit through the fixed water sign ruled by Mars — the sign of the Moon's fall, opposite her exaltation in Taurus. Emotion goes deep and stays there: intensity, suspicion, the pull toward what is hidden. The tradition reads it as the month's window for shadow work.
The Moon is in Capricorn right now — not in Scorpio.

Why the tradition calls this the Moon's fall
The Moon is exalted in Taurus, where the body is safe and feeling can rest on the surface. Scorpio is the opposite sign, and so the tradition names it the Moon's fall — not because feeling is weak here, but because it cannot stay shallow. Fixed water under Mars is water under pressure. What you have been managing, minimising or simply not looking at tends to surface during these two days with a force that is out of proportion to the trigger: the old betrayal, the thing you know about someone and have not said, the fantasy of control you are slightly ashamed of.
The alchemists began the Work in nigredo, the blackening, and they were explicit that nothing is made without it. Moon in Scorpio is a monthly nigredo — a putrefaction, the necessary rot of what was pretending to still be alive. The gnostic instruction is not to fight the descent but to go down with a lamp: shadow work is precisely the practice of meeting the excluded part before it meets you through someone else. Jealousy, secrecy and the urge to interrogate are that part knocking.
The transit crosses Al-Iklil, the crown, Al-Qalb, the heart of the Scorpion — the red star Antares — and Al-Shaulah, the sting. Crown, heart, sting: authority, the true centre, and the wound you give when you cannot bear the centre. That sequence is the transit's map.
What to do while the Moon is in Scorpio
Write the thing you would never say — the accusation, the desire, the grudge — in full, by hand, for no one. Then burn or shred it. This is the oldest shadow practice there is and it works because Scorpio Moon has already brought the material to the surface; you are only giving it a page instead of a person. Second, sit for ten minutes with the specific feeling you most want to avoid this week, and let it be as large as it is. It will not be as large as the avoidance.
Avoid interrogating anyone. Avoid checking the phone, the account, the message history — the hunger to know under this Moon is the shadow looking for a host. Avoid revenge fantasies dressed as boundaries, and avoid the power game in which you win by withholding. The descent is meant to be yours alone.

The phase matters too
Sign is the where; phase is the when. Right now the Moon is in its Waxing Gibbous phase. The two phases that best fit Scorpio's instruction:
Terms to sit with
- Nigredo
Latin: nigredo — blackening, from niger (black)
- Shadow
Old English: sceadu — shade, darkness. Jungian: the unconscious aspect of personality
- Putrefaction
Latin: putrefacere — to make rotten, from puter (rotten) + facere (to make). The alchemical term for the blackening and decomposition of matter within the sealed vessel.
- Ego Death
Latin: ego — I, self. The dissolution of the constructed identity
If your Sun is in Scorpio, the Moon's monthly return here is the window the sacred-secretion tradition works with.
Sacred secretion window for Scorpio →Tonight, lie in complete darkness — no light at all — for five minutes before sleep. Let the eyes stop searching. Ask what you have been refusing to know. Do not answer with words; notice what the body does when the question lands, and stay with that.
Questions
What does Moon in Scorpio mean?
Moon in Scorpio means the Moon is passing through the fixed water sign ruled by Mars, where traditional astrology places the Moon's fall. Emotionally it reads as intense, private and penetrating — feelings run deep and what has been hidden rises. The tradition treats it as the month's clearest window for shadow work.
How long is the Moon in Scorpio?
The Moon spends about 2.4 days (2 d 9 h) in Scorpio each pass — across the next six transits, between 2 d 8 h and 2 d 10 h. A Scorpio pass can be closer to two days or closer to three depending on where the Moon is in its orbit that week; the computed table shows the actual span of each.
When is the next Moon in Scorpio?
The next Moon in Scorpio begins Sun, 11 Oct 2026, 15:21 UTC and ends Wed, 14 Oct 2026, 00:59 UTC — in 22 days (computed 19 September 2026). The Moon returns to Scorpio about every 27.3 days, so one full transit falls inside almost every calendar month.
What is Moon in Scorpio good for?
Shadow work, ending what has genuinely died, deep conversation with one trusted person, research that requires going under the surface, and the alchemical stages of nigredo and putrefaction. It is the best transit of the month for honesty with yourself and a poor one for surveillance of anyone else.
