Full Moons 2027

The full moon does not add light. It shows what was already there.

2027 has 12 full moons, from 22 January 2027, 12:18 UTC in Leo to 13 December 2027, 16:09 UTC in Gemini, and 13 new moons. Three full moons are also penumbral lunar eclipses (20 February, 18 July and 17 August). Scorpio receives two full moons; Cancer receives none. Every time below is computed and UTC.

How the tradition reads it

A full moon is the one night a month when the Moon and the Sun face each other across the Earth with nothing between them. The alchemists called the Moon the receptive principle — luna, the vessel that holds light without generating it — and read the full phase as the moment the vessel is completely filled. Nothing new arrives at a full moon. What arrives is visibility: the thing seeded at the new moon two weeks earlier is shown to you whole, whether or not you like the shape.

The sign the Moon stands in at that moment names what is being shown. Because the Moon at full is always opposite the Sun, each full moon is lit by the season across from it — the Leo full moon in January is the Moon answering a Sun in Aquarius. This year the rhythm doubles in Scorpio — one full moon at the first degree, another at the last — and skips Cancer entirely, which the sign pages read as an absence with its own teaching.

Below is every full moon with its exact UTC minute and its degree, then every new moon, then one line for each illumination. The lines are not forecasts. They are the tradition's short instruction for what to look at when the light is full.

One line for each full moon

  1. 22 Jan, 12:18 UTC · Leo 2°15′

The heart's stage lit from the front — who you are when no one is clapping.

  2. 20 Feb, 23:24 UTC · Virgo 2°06′

Every small thing you have been calling unimportant, shown in the same light as the large ones. This one is also a penumbral lunar eclipse: the light is being shaded even as it shows.

  3. 22 Mar, 10:44 UTC · Libra 1°35′

Two days from the equinox, the scales are lit: what you have been calling fair.

  4. 20 Apr, 22:28 UTC · Scorpio 0°37′

At the sign's first degree — the moment of crossing into the depth, seen whole before you descend.

  5. 20 May, 11:00 UTC · Scorpio 29°14′

The second Scorpio full moon, at the sign's last degree: the moment of leaving the depth, seen whole. Between the two, the entire sign was read.

  6. 19 Jun, 00:45 UTC · Sagittarius 27°34′

The arrow lit at full draw: what you are aiming at, whether or not you have admitted it.

  7. 18 Jul, 15:46 UTC · Capricorn 25°49′

The structure you built, seen with its shadow attached; the shadow is also load-bearing. This one is also a penumbral lunar eclipse: the light is being shaded even as it shows.

  8. 17 Aug, 07:29 UTC · Aquarius 24°12′

The vessel lit from within, so that for one night you can see what it usually pours out unnoticed. This one is also a penumbral lunar eclipse: the light is being shaded even as it shows.

  9. 15 Sep, 23:04 UTC · Pisces 22°53′

The dissolving light — what you cannot hold, and have finally stopped trying to.

  10. 15 Oct, 13:48 UTC · Aries 21°59′

The light lands on the first spark — what you started, and stopped defending.

  11. 14 Nov, 03:26 UTC · Taurus 21°32′

What has actually taken root in the body since spring, as against what you planned.

  12. 13 Dec, 16:09 UTC · Gemini 21°25′

Two versions of the same sentence, side by side; the Moon shows which one you meant.

The practice

Stand in the light and let it show one thing

On the night of a full moon — the exact hour does not matter, the night does — sit where you can see the Moon, or where you can see a wall lit by anything at all if the sky is closed. Breathe until the breath is slow. Then ask, silently, what the two weeks since the new moon have grown. Not what you did. What grew.

Whatever image or sentence arrives first, write it down without improving it. One line. Then read the one-line note for that full moon on this page and set the two beside each other. The gap between them, or the match, is the reading. There is nothing to release, nothing to charge. The vessel is full; you are only looking at what it holds.

Questions

When is the first full moon of 2027?
22 January 2027, 12:18 UTC, with the Moon at 2°15′ Leo.
When is the last full moon of 2027?
13 December 2027, 16:09 UTC, at 21°25′ Gemini.
Is there a blue moon in 2027?
No, by the monthly definition — 2027 has 12 full moons and no calendar month holds two of them. It does have 13 new moons, so one month holds two new moons instead.
Which full moons of 2027 are lunar eclipses?
20 February (Moon in Virgo), 18 July (Moon in Capricorn) and 17 August (Moon in Aquarius). All are penumbral — the Moon passes only through the Earth's outer shadow and dims slightly. Details are on the eclipses page.
What sign is each full moon of 2027 in?
22 Jan Leo, 20 Feb Virgo, 22 Mar Libra, 20 Apr Scorpio, 20 May Scorpio, 19 Jun Sagittarius, 18 Jul Capricorn, 17 Aug Aquarius, 15 Sep Pisces, 15 Oct Aries, 14 Nov Taurus and 13 Dec Gemini.
What is a full moon good for, spiritually?
Seeing. The tradition does not use the full moon to start or to release but to look: the intention seeded at the new moon is shown at its fullest, and the work is to look at it honestly. The one-line notes on this page say what to look at for each sign. The practice says how.
