Sacred Secretion Dates for Gemini: The Twins' Monthly Fast Window

The Gemini window spans 30° to 90° of the ecliptic. The Moon's transit of Taurus (30°–60°) is phase one, the modern addition; the Moon crossing 60° into Gemini is the midpoint; the Moon's passage through Gemini to 90° — where Cancer and the summer solstice point begin — is phase two. The Moon takes about 2¼ days per sign, so the whole arc runs 4d 6h on average across the twelve windows below, between 4d 1h and 4d 12h.

Gemini's cusp days fall around May 20–21 and June 20–21. Born within two days of either? The Sun's sign change moves by up to a day between years, so the date alone may not decide between Taurus, Gemini and Cancer. The calculator asks for birth time and birthplace timezone and computes the Sun's actual longitude at that moment.

Gemini is Air ruled by Mercury, and the tradition gives it the shoulders, arms, hands and lungs — everything the body uses to reach, gesture and speak. It is the sign of the two, the twin channels, and it is no accident that a Gemini's inner life often feels like a conversation that never quite closes. Inez Perry's part of The Zodiac and the Salts of Salvation (1932) gives Gemini “the bronchial tubes and lungs, the shoulders, arms and hands” (p. 91): the breath, which is also the speech.

For a Gemini the window is less about food than about restlessness of mind. In the modern first half the Moon is in Taurus, slow and earthy, and astrologers read a Mercury-ruled sign as meeting that slowness with boredom — the itch to check, to message, to fill the hours with input. Later practice adds a water fast here; Carey rejected fasting (God-Man, p. 103). The discipline this sign's reading points to is intake of every kind: fewer words going in and fewer coming out.

When the Moon enters Gemini and the seed is said to be born, the region lit is the chest and the hands. Carey's Gemini salt was potassium chloride, the fibrin-builder — image, not remedy. What the tradition offers this sign is the long breath. Ida and Pingala, the two channels braided around the spine, are your sign's own symbol; the spine-breathing many add to the window is almost tailored for you.
