Sacred Secretion Dates for Sagittarius: The Archer's Monthly Fast Window

Sagittarius's window spans 210° to 270°. Phase one, the modern addition, is the Moon's transit of Scorpio (210°–240°); the midpoint is the Moon entering Sagittarius at 240°; phase two is the Moon crossing Sagittarius to 270° — the December solstice degree, where Capricorn begins. The twelve windows below average 4d 20h; the Moon's varying speed spreads them from 4d 16h to 4d 23h.

Cusp days for Sagittarius fall around November 21–22 and December 21–22. If you were born within two days of either, the Sun may have been in Scorpio or Capricorn — the ingress shifts by up to a day between years — and the window would move by a full sign. Sagittarius is Fire under Jupiter, and the body-map gives it the hips, the thighs and the sacrum — the great muscles of the stride, the part of the body built for distance. Carey's Sagittarius salt was silica, which he called “the surgeon of the human organism”, found in the hair, skin, nails and the sheath of the nerves (The Zodiac and the Salts of Salvation, p. 37). Image, not remedy. The point is reach: a Sagittarius body is a body that is always somewhere else, halfway to the horizon.

The window is an argument with that reach. The modern first half puts the Moon in Scorpio — deep, fixed, inward — and astrologers read a Jupiter-ruled sign as feeling that as confinement, the walls closing in, the urgent need for air and a road. The counsel is to stay: no leaving — not the house, not the conversation, not the feeling. The water fast later practice adds here is not Carey's, who wrote against fasting (God-Man, p. 103). Notice how much of your appetite is actually appetite for elsewhere.

When the Moon crosses into Sagittarius the seed is said to be born and to begin its ascent, and the lit region is your own: the hips and thighs, the base of the stride. The tradition's counsel here is lightness and a slower pace. Fire returns in phase two and the temptation is to celebrate it — to eat, to travel, to expand. Retention, for an Archer, means keeping the arrow on the string. Hold the aim without releasing it. What you learn in those two and a quarter days is what you have actually been aiming at all this time, which is rarely what the target says.

Every time you notice the mind reaching ahead to the destination, the plan, the next thing, return to the thigh that is carrying you now. At the end, stand still for ten breaths and ask what you were walking toward. Do not answer. Fifteen minutes, nothing to buy.
