How the tradition reads it

Aquarius carries an eclipse in each of the year's two eclipse seasons. The annular solar eclipse in early February falls in the middle of the sign — the Moon centred on the Sun but too small to cover it, leaving a ring of light — and the penumbral lunar eclipse in mid-August falls with the Moon at Aquarius's late degrees, opposite the Sun in Leo. The ring in winter, the shade in summer: the water-bearer is outlined in February and dimmed in August, and the tradition reads the two as one sentence.

Your season runs from the third week of January to the third week of February. Mercury stations retrograde inside it, in Pisces's first degrees, and backs into Aquarius, turning direct there in early March. The new moon in Aquarius is the annular eclipse itself. The full moon in Aquarius is the August eclipse. Neither lunation in the sign this year is an ordinary one, which for the sign of the extraordinary is almost a joke — and almost a warning.

Pluto is in Aquarius for all of 2027, retrograde from May to October, slowly working the sign's early degrees. The tradition reads Aquarius as the vessel that pours — the knowledge that is only real when it is given away. This year the vessel is being shown its own outline in February and its own thinning in August. What you pour, and whether it is still reaching anyone, is the question the sky keeps repeating.

The practice

Trace the outline of what you pour

On the night of the annular eclipse, draw a circle on paper without lifting the pen, slowly, breathing with the line. Inside it write what you give to others — the real thing, not the intended one. On the night of the August lunar eclipse, take the paper out and shade lightly over one part of the circle: the part that has thinned since winter. Do not fix it. Notice it. The noticing is the work.
